We provide tools for teachers and pupils to combine science, arts and IT subjects across national curricula in a comfortable and exciting way. Click here to see a lesson plan and powerpoint for schools workshops, developed in collaboration with James de Winter at the Cambridge University Education Department.
Students are filmed recreating birdsongs.
Click here to hear a recording of a goldfinch's song at full speed. Then click here to watch William from Holbrook Primary School in Suffolk reproduce the sound.
Students create spectrographs of their recordings using Raven Sound Analysis software from Cornell University. Here is a spectrograph of the goldfinch's song (used in the videos above). Click on the arrow to follow the shapes of the song, like a musical score! Spectrographs are wonderful teaching tools that cross the boundaries between science, music and IT.
Planet Birdsong connects us to nature. We set the ball rolling with birdsong; opening ears and minds to the extraordinary creative possibilities in the sounds that colour our lives. We open up different ways of being experimental and creative, the end result being a new, or increased interest in the natural world.
